A solid industrial
base The
industrialization in the Rhône-Alpes region is an old one. It occurred in many
industrial fields (textile, chemistry, manufacturing of machinery, automotive
industry, electrical and mechanical engineering, pharmacy, food and agriculture
industry...).
This old industrial tradition, source of "know how"
and innovation, added to a favourable geographical position in the heart of Europe
close to the largest markets, explain well the width and diversity of the industrial
texture of the Rhône-Alpes region. Thanks to this ever-present strong base, new
activities have soared and represent today the largest regional first -rate poles
(numerical, biotechnology, materials, instrumentation and electronic devices,
environment...).
Employement in high-technology industrial activies shows
a 7,2 % increase from 1997 to 2001.
